Anyone with a connection to the legal profession knows the challenges faced by the profession to find a balance between the professional and personal aspects of life and to maintain a sense of wellness. There never seems to be enough time in the day to meet the ever increasing demands of practice, home and self.

The New Brunswick Lawyers Assistance Program (NBLAP) offers a confidential referral and short term counselling service for members of the legal profession, their staff, and families who may have health or personal concerns. Resources are available for a full range of personal, family or life events and issues.

NBLAP also includes wellness programs online, to help you develop your Personal Wellness Plan, with a variety of e-courses and other tools designed to help you take charge of your health and well-being. You can access online resources through our provider Homewood HealthTM at homewoodhealth.com.

Please note that NBLAP is your “company” name when you register. And remember, when you dial 1-888-315-2244 (TTY: 1-888-384-1152), your call will be answered any time, day or night, 365 days per year.

What is the Lawyers’ Assistance Program?

It is a confidential free service to respond to any personal problem that affects your health, well-being and professional life.

Are staff and family members covered under the plan?

Yes, you, your spouse, your dependents and staff are covered by the plan anywhere in Canada. Provide them with a copy of the brochure or card for everyone’s convenience.

Will there be a fee for the counselling received?

No, all of the fees charged are paid to the provider through the program so there is absolutely no out of pocket cost.

Is the 1-888-315-2244 access line for emergencies only?

While the person answering the phone can assist you in accessing immediate help, counselling is available in person, by telephone or online. Services are available locally and appointments made quickly, with your convenience in mind.

What will happen when I call the line?

The person answering the phone will obtain identifying information and the basic nature of the problem to help you access the appropriate confidential services.

Will anyone find out that I have called the line or used the service?

No, everyone is guaranteed confidentiality within the limits of the law. Homewood is an experienced accredited national company and has taken many steps to protect and maintain your privacy. No names are provided to the LAP committee.

Why should I contact Homewood HealthTM?

Counselling is available for all of life’s challenges, including: marital, family or relationships, stress, anxiety, depression,addictions, grief, life transitions and change or other personal issues.

PlanSmart Lifestyle and specialty coaching is available for childcare and parent situations, eldercare and family care, financial, smoking cessation, weight management, nutritional, career planning, workplace issues and pre-retirement planning.

What is the cost of the Lawyers Assistance Program?

Membership has its advantages! This Lawyers’ Assistance Program is a paid service provided by the CBA-NB Branch, the Law Society of New Brunswick and the Professional Liability Reserve Fund.
